Newsom's father, Hugh Newsom, says his son's body was found early Sunday morning. The 23 year old's remains were found near the railroad tracks on Ninth Avenue. Hugh Newsom says authorities told him his son was shot and his body was partially burned.

Chris Newsom and his girlfriend, 21 year-old Channon Christian, have been missing since Saturday night, when they were last seen at an East Knox County apartment complex.

Police confirm that a missing person's report was filed Sunday for Channon Christian.

A major search involving more than 40 officers is now underway in the area in East Knoxville where Chris Newsom's body was found.

My heart and prayers go out to the families suffering from their loss. This story is so tragic, and very hard to understand how or even why this could happen to such a young couple that seemed to be doing all things right in their lives. Does anyone know why they were even in that area to begin with, or were they possibly hijacked somewhere else then maybe the car was driven to that location where it was found nearby the house??? It seems that one of the suspects has a prior record for a recent hikacking an assault. This story is just very sad, and makes me very angry at why this would or even did happen. Hopefully justice will be served! Again my prayers go out to all suffering from this tragedy.

In regards to the last posted comment from "Brett B", I could care less if your black or not. You are truly showing your ignorance given your comments regarding Halls,Tn and it's people. No matter where you live there is a select few that harbor some type contempt towards people of opposite race, however, you can't judge an entire community based off of your own personal convictions. If you had been more informed about the story you would know that they were not originally in that area of town, they were car-jacked and then taken there. It is apparant that "brett b" is looking at this as some sick form of justification that is to be tolerated due to form of built up aggression. What these men did to these young victims is inexcusable, and they deserve nothing but the same pain and torture that they so easily provided to the victims. However, I've yet to hear of a double homicide in this manor in Halls. So go ahead and stay where you are "brett b" and complain about how bad you and your race have it, and you can just disregard the victims and their families, because to you this no more than just a "race-thing".

These primates should not be given the death penalty. Wait...are they primates, or neanderthals? They're certainly not of the human race. Anyways, I say they should not be given the death penalty, because that is more like a "gift" to them. Knowing that they will only recieve the death penalty, or time in prison where the food is good and free, these devils will still be laughing in their head about what they did.

Giving someone the death penalty is more of a relief to them. The proper thing in a case like this, would be to let the citizens decide. Screw the law. This is too Evil to let the law handle. I say these people be tortured, in the most horrible ways that one could imagine. They need to regret their crime, and not get a free ticket out of this world, by being put to death. Once they are tortured, they should be left to live handicap lives. I believe they should be given an opportunity of time, to realize how horrible they are, and how terrible their crime was. Let it eat up their minds, while they are living as handicaps with missing limbs. Besides, we should not have the right to determine the fate of another human. That should only be left up to God. We are not God. So let them suffer, and hopefully regret what they did. The death penalty or imprisonment is not enough punishment for this crime.

Also, I am not racist, but I am prejudice against anyone who wants to blame something on my race, or criticize us. People are racist for a reason, and that reason is because they are offended by the other race. So if anyone is wondering why White people supposedly have a great reputation of being racist, then I am sure it is because they are offended by the lifestyles, the minds, and the actions of the other race. Whites don't volunteer to be racist. They're pressured into being racist. We mind our business and get along with anyone, until someone or some group comes along offending us. So it's not the Whites to blame, it's the offensive people to blame.

So I hope my comment doesn't get deleted just because I'm White. And sorry for changing the subject, but some Black racist offended me with their comment.

Like so many others I'am terribly troubled by the fact this Tragedy isn't on the front page of every newspaper in the world! Wake up America this is a HATE CRIME! If a bunch of white people did this to a black couple cities all over the country would be in flames.

This is way past the day it was posted but I used to live in Halls. I am white.In most places I have lived, my husband and I have been treated well and people were very friendly. We bought a house in Halls, Tennessee and "survived" for a little over two years. I have never lived in a town with a bigger race problem and the people there are extremely unfriendly. It is one of those places if you aren't born there don't bother. We would go in stores and try speaking to the clerks etc and couldn't even get a hello back most of the time. It was ridiculous. I have no doubt this was over race.
