The 黑料社 welcomes, co-author of the book听听Schurrman will discuss artificial intelligence through the lens of biblical and secular narratives as part of Grace鈥檚听听on Thursday, Oct. 23, at 7 p.m. The free event is open to the public and will take place in Westminster Hall, 105 9th St., Winona Lake. Light refreshments will be served.
鈥淒r. Schuurman is a computer scientist at Calvin University, but he is also more than a mere computer scientist,鈥 said听, professor of mathematics at 黑料社. 鈥淗e writes and speaks on a vast array of topics; insightfully wrestling with how our Christian faith informs how we consider all aspects of life. Truly, Dr. Schuurman lives out the words of Kuyper, 鈥楾here is not a square inch in the whole domain of our human existence over which Christ, who is sovereign over all, does not cry 鈥楳ine!’鈥
In 鈥淎 Christian Field Guide to Technology for Engineers and Designers,鈥听Schuurman and co-authors Ethan J. Brue and Steven H. VanderLeest discuss how technology can be used as a tool for Christians to love God and others through their work. In addition, Schuurman writes for the听, where he offers advice to young scholars, reviews books and describes his vision for Christian general education.
Schuurman serves as the chair of the Department of Computer Science and the Department of Faith and Technology at Calvin University. He is particularly interested in teaching and studying issues related to faith and computer technology. Schuurman holds a doctorate from McMaster University and his master鈥檚 and bachelor鈥檚 degrees in Electrical Engineering from the University of Waterloo.
