Bienvenue! Whether you have previously studied French or are a beginner, the French degree at 黑料社 invites you to a world of new language and cultural experiences.聽
As an official language of the United Nations, NATO, UNESCO, and the International Red Cross, French is a strategic choice for students interested in diplomacy, international business, missions, and humanitarian work. It also gives you access to some of the most influential thinkers and writers in European history.
Our French major finds its roots in the idea that all cultures reflect the truth about who God is and how He designed us. When we study other languages, we鈥檙e studying other image-bearers and their communities. At Grace, we equip our learners to work as bridge-builders across diverse communities, bringing cultural competency as well as linguistic knowledge to further God鈥檚 Kingdom.
You鈥檒l begin with intermediate and beginner classes, where you鈥檒l receive a mix of language, culture, listening, writing, speaking, reading, and history. As you progress onto advanced, specialized courses, you鈥檒l focus on one discipline, such as speaking and listening, culture and civilization, or literature. You can expect smaller, discussion-based class periods where you鈥檒l engage in conversation from start to finish.
Each of our French classes is focused on language exposure, so you鈥檒l be immersed in the language through videos, Bible verses, short readings, advertisements, and other media.
The cornerstone of our French major is our Study Abroad program, in which you鈥檒l spend a semester or summer at Universit茅 de Bourgogne in Dijon, France, or Laval University in Quebec, Canada, for an immersive, cross-cultural experience. It鈥檚 this period in which you鈥檒l hit the ground running with your French, engaging in settings such as museums, caf茅s, and churches.
We offer a variety of on-campus opportunities to study French language and Francophone culture, literature, and film. You may enjoy conversation hours, cultural workshops, and film viewings. Consider joining Grace鈥檚 French Club, or become a French tutor for a paid opportunity to brush up on your language skills.
When you graduate with a French degree, you鈥檒l be equipped with a high degree of competency in French, written and verbal communication skills, critical thinking skills, and cultural understanding. Graduates have progressed on to work in language education, tourism, the U.S. government, copywriting, business or nonprofit services for immigrants, and countless other careers.
